Dr. Abraham Tekeste has been serving as the Minister of Finance and Economic Cooperation of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia since November 2016. Dr. Tekeste has over 17 years of experience with the Government of Ethiopia including public office appointments and professional work. Prior to his current position, he served as Deputy Commissioner, with a rank of a State Minister, at the Ethiopian National Planning Commission and before that as a State Minister at the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development (MoFED). He has also served as the Director of the Policy and Programs Bureau at the Ministry of Works and Urban Development, and as Head of the Mayor’s Office and Chief Economic Advisor to the Mayor of the city government of Addis Ababa.
Dr. Tekeste also has worked in academia both with Addis Ababa University and the Ethiopian Civil Service University as a lecturer and research head. He holds a Ph.D. in Economics from the London South Bank University Business School in the UK, and an M.A in Economic Policy Analysis and a B.A. in Economics from Addis Ababa University, Ethiopia.
